At a rally in California this week, Trump said that he got a copy of Hillary Clinton’s speech and that “it was such lies about my foreign policy, that they said I want Japan to get nuclear weapons. Give me a break.”
CNN cut together a video of Trump lying about this issue. First a clip of Trump saying “They said I want Japan to nuke. They said I want Japan to get nuclear weapons. Give me a break.” Immediately cut to an interview with Anderson Cooper and this exchange:
TRUMP: North Korea has nukes. Japan has a problem with that, I mean they have a big problem with it. Maybe they would in fact be better off if they defend themselves from North Korea.
ANDERSON COOPER: With nukes?
TRUMP: They would be better off, including with nukes, yes! Including with nukes.
In March Donald Trump advocated nuclear weapons for Japan. He did it unequivocally and definitively as seen in the above video, and in several other speeches in late March. Now he is denying it, but the proof is right there.
Foreign Minister of Japan, Fumio Kushida, has said that “It is impossible that Japan will arm itself with nuclear weapons.” As the only country to have suffered a nuclear attack, it is a central tenet of the Japanese government’s policy to never arm itself with nuclear weapons.
CNN and the media at large is finally taking some pride in themselves as journalists and calling Donald Trump out on his incessant disdain for the truth. As seen in the above video and the delightful image below, CNN is using the chyron at the bottom of the screen to fact check Trump, instead of using it to regurgitate his numerous falsehoods.
